The Buddha

Paul G. Heller is an award-winning narrative fiction author and playwright based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where his schooling inspired “The Buddha”. Since receiving his MFA, he has been publishing fiction and non-fiction in journals and periodicals, while his plays have been produced in many venues. In 1984 he was a Fellow with the National Endowment for the Humanities at Oxford, Mississippi. His work has been documented by Lissa Renaud in Critical Stages and on Howl Round. He has received grants from Theatre Bay Area, California Center for Cultural Innovation, the Wattis Foundation, and the Zellerbach Foundation. His theater work, often in collaboration with actors, puppeteers, dancers, and field experts, examines America’s shrinking rural culture, prison debt, our current political divide, our identity as Americans, and our relationship with Mexico, Japan, China, and Vietnam.
