Gyaru

Author

Gyaru are the name of a Japanese subculture that emerged as a movement that rebelled against the East Asian standard of beauty that is dark-haired, light skinned, and conservative. Much like the women of this movement, the human behind the writing is a prolific artist and writer whose work has reflected the heart and soul of the lives of AAPI people who have been written off by society as worthless, controversial, and “bad.” Her pieces have been published in Maganda Magazine, Kearny Street Workshop, and now, NiftyLit.
